HAMMOND -- A motorcycle driver died Monday when a vehicle pulled into his path on La. 443.

State Police said Christopher Kelley, 22, of Walker was southbound when an Escalade driven by Linda Atkins, 49, of Hammond made a left turn onto the road directly in front of him

The accident happened about a half mile north of US 190.

Atkins is charged with negligent homicide and failure to yield while turning left.

Troopers are continuing their investigation; however, driver inattention is suspected to be the primary factor leading to the events of the crash.

Distracted driving is any non-driving activity a person engages in that has the potential to distract him or her from the primary task of driving and increase the risk of crashing.
