A 3.0 magnitude earthquake shook part of Louisiana Sunday night at approximately 11:34 p.m. according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The earthquake occurred about 35 miles north of Baton Rouge, near Clinton.

No reports from the public regarding the earthquake were made to the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office, said Maj. Bob King of the EFPSO.

Clinton Police Chief Eddie Stewart said he heard what sounded like thunder “around 11ish” but said he did not feel the tremor. Stewart lives about 12 miles north of Clinton, near the Louisiana state line.

According to the USGS, the state’s largest recorded earthquake occurred near Napoleonville, in Assumption Parish, on Oct. 19, 1930. It was a 4.2 magnitude.
