GUEYDAN - A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Gueydan on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. honoring the life of Edith Bertrand, age 93, who was called from this life May 5, 2012. Mrs. Bertrand will be laid to rest in the Gueydan Cemetery with Father Jason Vidrine officiating her funeral mass.

Edith was born on June 14, 1918 to the late John Potier and the late Ella LaPoint Potier. She was a homemaker and devoted her life to the care of her family. She enjoyed making homemade ice cream, going shopping, dancing, and playing cards.

Edith is survived by her son, Russell Bertrand of Gueydan; one daughter, Shirley Broussard and husband Rodney also of Gueydan; one sister, Theresa Touchet of Gueydan; five grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

Edith now rests in Heaven with her beloved parents, John and Ella; and her husband, Wildis “Crip” Bertrand.

Carrying Mrs. Bertrand to her eternal resting place in the Gueydan Cemetery will be Justin Bertrand, Byron Broussard, Gary Broussard, Darrel Dyson, Chad Henry, and Roger Cormier. The gift bearers will be Madison Petry, Tristen Daigle, and Claire Broussard. The scripture readings will be read by Taylor Rachelle Daigle and Lynsey Petry.

Visitation will be held at Matthews & Son Funeral Home in Gueydan on Monday, May 7 from 10:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. Visitation will resume on Tuesday at 8 p.m. until the time of her funeral mass.
