Eighth suspect in multiple little girls rape-incest case surrenders; their case files closed to public

OPELOUSAS – The last of eight men and women accused of rape and incest on three nine-year-old girls turned himself in Monday to State Police and U.S. Marshals.

Lawrence Ricks, Jr., 35, of Ventress was booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail, charge in a case that has outraged people from coast to coast.

The other seven suspects in the shocking allegations were arrested on May 20.

They will be prosecuted in St. Landry Parish, where district court tradition bars public access to any information regarding their cases -- bond, hearing date, motions date or trial date.

According to State Police, the investigation began two weeks ago after Children and Family Services got a tip on a possible abuse case in St. Landry Parish in 2010.

The initial information indicated that the were forced to have sexual intercourse with eight adults at a residence in the Church Point area.

“This crime is unconscionable. There is nothing more disturbing to me than seeing innocent children exploited and molested,” said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.

“We will continue to locate and arrest any individual who preys on that innocence. Child molestation is a horrible, heinous act and there is no place in a civilized society for such appalling actions,” he said.

The investigation determined that in October of 2010, the three girls were allegedly forced to have sexual intercourse with several family members and family friends.

Detectives interviewed the victims and obtained additional independent evidence indicating the sexual abuse. Based on this evidence, detectives secured arrest warrants for eight suspects.

The following suspects were arrested at their residences Friday and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail:

John Stelly, 57, of Church Point - aggravated rape (3 counts), aggravated incest (3 Counts)

Alice Stelly, 55, Church Point - aggravated rape (3 counts), aggravated incest (3 Counts)

Jennifer Stelly, 30, Ville Platte - aggravated rape (3 counts), aggravated incest (3 Counts)

Barry Giglio, 52, Ville Platte - aggravated rape (3 counts)

Marla Giglio, 51, Ville Platte - aggravated rape (3 counts)

Marty Blood, 42, St. Landry - aggravated rape (3 counts)

Brandy Blood, 26), St. Landry - aggravated rape (3 counts)

Let me fill in the blanks that the police and media don’t seem to want released, when Marty Blood came up for bond reduction in January 2011, for charges in connection with the same three girls involved in his recent charges, over half of the court room was filled with his friends and family willing to post property bonds for his release. He was released on house arrest with an ankle monitor and he has not seen or been around thoses girls sense he called child services and had them picked up in October of 2010.

Far too often in our sociality, people have been arrested to later be released because of misinformation, misunderstandings or people just plain lying. How can anyone expect any of these people to get any type of a fair trail when 90% of the people who have read about this have already convicted them. I would expect comments like this to be written after they have gone to court and been convicted, but to write comments like the ones I have read based solely on what you have read in the paper or on the internet, is just plain ignorant. Our justice system is based on the belief “innocent until proven guilty” so lets wait until these people have been convicted before passing judgment.

Thank you abcdefgx for sharing this info, the links do in fact show a very scary and dark profile of these monsters. How the he** did this Martin Blood afford a $450,000 bond?..I know only 12 or 13 percent or a property bond got him out but how many relatives of this backwoods trash could afford that much??..

If you search this website for each of the Blood people you will find previous arrests from last year involving molestation. One from Oct 2010 for him and one from Dec 2010 for her.

To clear up any mis-understandings the forgoing statement was declared by none of than our Lord Jesus Christ. The law should take him at His word. If these people will rape their own children they would not hesitate to abuse a neighbir or stranger's child; they need to be permanently removed from this life.

" Father forgive them for they know not what they do, or say " This prayer is for the accused, as well as anyone else. Who could possibly commit a more serious offence than those who Killed Jesus Christ?, Yet he did not judge them, but forgave them at once. How arrogant I would be to stand in Judgement of these people. Maybe I shouldn't call myself a Christian if I don't follow Christ. Sad very sad that I include myself in this prayer. But for His grace do I see this truth today. If indeed these crimes were committed, those responsible should be held accountable. They should be removed from society in a fair and just manner to be determined by the powers that be.
