Visitation will be held Tuesday from 2 p.m. til 8 p.m. Tuesday and on Wednesday from 8 a.m. until service time at the Geesey-Ferguson chapel. A Rosary will be prayed at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
He was born to the late Dr. Ernest Joseph Petitjean, Sr. and Noemie Lapleau Petitjean on June 27, 1927, in Church Point and raised in Opelousas. Upon his graduation from St. Stanislaus High School in Bay St. Louis, MS, he enrolled in Tulane University where he was a member of Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. From there he enlisted in the U.S. Navy on June 20, 1945, and served until his honorable discharge after the end of World War II on January 16, 1947. After his discharge, he attended SLI (now UL) where he completed his studies before entering Loyola University in New Orleans. He received his degree in General Dentistry in 1951. He practiced in Opelousas for one year before moving to Crowley in 1952. He served his patients well for 39 years before his retirement in 1991.
During his time here he distinguished himself with many civic pursuits. He served on the St. Michael School Board and served St. Michael Church Parish as a trustee. He is past president of the Crowley Lions Club and past president of the Crowley Town Club. He reigned over the Eighth Town Club Carnival Ball in 1963. He maintained memberships in the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. He served on the Board of Directors for Cimmer Properties, Woodlawn Cemetery and the Crowley Building and Loan. Subsequently, he served on the Advisory Board for Home Bank.
Dr. Petitjean is survived by his wife of 54 years, the former Georgie McDaniel, four children Dr. Mark Petitjean and his wife Vicki of Lafayette; Stephen Petitjean and his wife Madrienne of Sugarland, Texas; Scott Petitjean and his wife Linda of Buffalo, New York; and Anne Petitjean Hughs and her husband William of New Orleans. He is also survived by his ten grandchildren: Jared, Jason and Trey Petitjean of Lafayette, Alex, Vincent and Philippe Petitjean of Sugarland, Texas, Sam and Virginia Petitjean of Buffalo, New York and Caroline and Allison Hughs of New Orleans.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Juanita Bordelon, Loretta Harrell, and Melba Johnson.
