Faulty lights lead to St. Martin traffic stop, 10.9-kilo bust; Texas man jailed

BREAUX BRIDGE -- State Police seized cocaine worth about $240,000 from during a traffic stop on Monday afternoon.

Shortly before 4:30 p.m., troopers initiated a traffic stop on a 2006 Dodge Ram on Interstate 10 eastbound near milepost 109.

Troopers identified the driver as 22-year-old Felipe Paz of Brownsville, Texas.

During the course of the stop, troopers obtained consent to search the vehicle. Their search led to the recovery of 10.91 kilos of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $240,000.

After detectives with the Louisiana State Police Bureau of Investigation interviewed Paz, he was charged with possession with intent to distribute cocaine, no driver’s license, and having improperly working lights on his vehicle.

He was booked into the St. Martin Parish Jail.
