Fire chief application open until July 25

There are three different ways an applicant can be qualified to take the Civil Service test for Eunice Fire Chief.

The registry for men or women planning to take the exam to succeed retiring Chief Wayne Lavergne is open until 3 p.m. on Monday, July 25.

Within 60 days, the test will be given. The mayor and City Council will select from those qualified applicant who pass the test.

To qualify, an applicant must have a bachelor’s degree in fire science, fire administration, business administration, public administration, or a related curriculum, and at least six years of full-time progressively responsible experience in fire service positions.

An alternative qualification is an associate degree with at least eight years’ experience.

A third experience alternative is a high school diploma or is equivalence and at least 10 years’ experience.

Whoever is offered the job before beginning work must pass a medical examination prepared and administered by the city, designed to demonstrate good health and physical fitness sufficient to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without accommodation.
