CROWLEY - Just one look at the packed waiting area of Acadia Family Clinic makes it easy to see that flu season is quite possibly at its peak.

One could only hope so because according to Nurse Practioner Gina Miller this week has been one of the worst she’s seen.

“So far this week we’ve diagnosed 11 cases of the flu,” she said. “And we’re a small clinic and it’s only Tuesday.”

According to Miller the 11 cases are “about three times what we normally see. This is one of the worst weeks I’ve seen.

“We’ve been going though a lot of hand sanitizer over here,” she smiled wearily.

There have been several warnings by doctors across the southern area of the U.S. that this flu season has the potential to be one of the worst in recent memory and that the strains of the flu seem to be more strong than in past flu seasons.

Miller said that the symptoms of the flu are the sudden onset (one minute you’ll feel fine and suddenly it will hit you really hard), fever, body aches, sinus congestion and coughing.

And there is one thing she wished to emphasize to those who have the flu.

“Stay at home,” said Miller. “People who get out and go to Wal-Mart or any other public place only need to cough or sneeze and then it’s out there for someone else to catch.”
