Rev. Roger Tarver, Pastor of the First Baptist Church of Crowley will conduct the funeral service and the committal services at the Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Richard. The family request visitation is observed from 3 p.m. Saturday until 8 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. until service time.
He is survived by one daughter, Linda L. Comeaux, and her husband Copley of Baton Rouge; two grandsons, Russell Fontenot and his wife Traci of Denham Springs, and Richard Fontenot and his wife Susana of Raleigh, NC; six great-grandchildren, Courtney, Kristin, Cade, Gabrielle, Connor, and Genevieve Fontenot; one sister, Marie Bourg of Metairie; four step-children, Gail Broussard and her husband John of Fairfax, Va., Kenny Webb and his wife Darla of Egan, Joey Webb and Molly of Lafayette, and Jimmy Webb and his wife Kimberly of The Woodlands, Texas; thirteen step grandchildren, and 14 step-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Laughlin is preceded in death by his parents Sullivan L. Laughlin and Mary Ann Francois Laughlin; his first wife Ruby Sloan Laughlin; his second wife Bea Guidry Webb Laughlin; four sisters Amy Bradley, Hattie Savoy, Ruby Laughlin and Nettie Richard; three brothers Donald, Nelson and Joseph Laughlin; and a step-son Dicky Webb.
Fred worked as a farm equipment salesman covering the southeastern United States for Minneapolis Moline for over twenty years, and Parts Associates, Inc. (PAI) for over thirty years. He served his country as a member of the 157th Infantry Regiment in World War II, fighting in the North African Theater of Operation and in the Allied invasion of Sicily.
He was an avid cook, bowler, fisherman, story-teller and family man. He wrote a book entitled “Growing Up in the Good Old Days,” in which he described his life in rural Acadia Parish in the first half of the twentieth century. His father taught him self reliance, resilience and independence, traits he comfortably embraced in his own southern, gentlemanly and understated way.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the First Baptist Church of Crowley.
