CROWLEY – The Crowley Gents opened up District 4-AAA play in dominant fashion Friday, cruising to a 60-26 victory over the visiting Westlake Rams.

The two teams battled to a 12-12 tie in the first quarter before Crowley took control in the second frame by going on a 24-6 run.

“We started out a little sluggish tonight, but we clamped down a little defensively in the second quarter and our offense picked up,” said CHS coach Derrick Boone, whose squad improved to 12-7 overall with the victory.

The Gents scored just 24 points in the second half but their defense limited Westlake to just eight, six in the third quarter.

“What I’m really happy about is our defensive play in the second half, especially in the fourth quarter,” said Boone, whose team held Rayne scoreless in the fourth quarter during Tuesday’s 50-35 victory. “In two games, we’ve given up just two points in the fourth quarter total so that’s big.”

What was also big was the play of senior forward Jerrell Andrus, who scored a game-high 29 points in the victory.

Dorris Senegal and Tuskani Figaro followed Andrus with nine points each; Davante Bourque added five points and Dylan Montgomery had four. Kaleb Cormier and Damon Malbrough each scored two.

In Iota, the Iota Lady Bulldogs improved to 20-5 on the season and 5-0 in District 5-AA play with a 61-28 victory over Pine Prairie.

The Lady Dogs took a 31-17 lead at the break before outscoring the Lady Panthers 30-11 in the second half.

Allison Baggett led all scorers with 30 points, including five three pointers. She was followed by Anna Lege with 11 points and Adalie Wriborg with seven. Madison Meche pitched in six points, Caroline Hebert scored four and Candace Sensat had three.
