Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012, in Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church of Houston, Texas, with Pastor Dr. Richard Jewel Rose officiating, for George Elroy Jackson, Sr., 87, who died on August 8, 2012.

Burial was in Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Houston, Texas.

He was born October 4, 1925, in Berleson, Texas, to Mose and Clara Jackson.

He was a member of Starlight Baptist Church and Faith Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a member of the usher board.

Mr. Jackson served in the U.S. Navy.

He married Ms. Mary Mouton on December 19, 1986 in Rayne.

He was employed as a truck driver. In his leisure time, he enjoyed the company of family and friends. He was a member of A&O 21st Century Club and the American Legion.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sons, Jimmy Jackson (Earnestine), Roger Jackson, Howard Jackson and Michael Jackson; daughters, Barbara Elmore, Shirley Davis (Richard), Jennifer Martin (Gerald) and Lola Johnson (David); and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, relatives, friends, his pet Taylor, all of Rayne.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, George E. Jackson, Jr.; brother, Willie Jackson and love one, Laura B. Jackson.

Pallbearers were David Johnson, Richard Davis, Leonard DeRouen, Sr., Leonard DeRouen, Jr., and Timothy Rideout.

Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy Jackson, Tim Mayfield, Howard Jackson, Roger Jackson and Michael Jackson.

Eternal Rest Funeral Home of Houston, Texas, was in charge of funeral arrangements.
