COLFAX -- The Grant Parish Sheriff’s Department alleges the Colfax police chief sold a canine officer loaned to the city by the parish.

Chief Kraig Fussell, 37, who lives in Dry Prong, was booked on one count of felony theft and two counts of malfeasance in office on Tuesday.

According to the warrant, the Sheriff’s Office loaned a certified police patrol dog to Chief Fussell in November.

Sometime over the past three months, he sold the dog without permission the warrant alleges.
