Police receive a call at 11:35 p.m. about a disturbance in the 400 block of Mathilda Street.
On arrival, a witness advised that a gunshot had been heard and a man was seen pulling a woman away from the house.
A bundle of women’s clothing was found by the door of the house.
Investigation determined the victim’s name and by midnight police were aware of the description of the fleeing vehicle and the direction it had taken and began a search.
Shortly after 1 a.m., the 911 center advised it had the victim on an open line and the phone location was St. Mary & Hwy. 29.
Three minutes later, at 1:19 a.m. the fugitive vehicle was stopped at St. Mary & Fruge streets.
Terrence Smith, 53, of 341 Lloyd was booked in the city jail. His alleged victim was apparently unharmed.
Investigation continues into what provoked the alleged kidnapping.
According to records, the suspect has no recent arrest record in the city. The victim’s arrest record is extensive.
