Helicopter crash claims one life

LYONS POINT - A helicopter crash has produced at least one fatality.

According to the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office, they received a call at 10:44 a.m. about a helicopter being down near Lyons Point Highway and Benton Road in the community of Lyons Point.

Witnesses say the helicopter hit a guide wire off of an antennae owned by KSIG, owned by Phil and Shell Lavat.

The sheriff's office says the believe the one person killed was the only person on board.

Currently, the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office is securing the scene until the FAA and NTSB arrive, they are en route.

For the safety of the public, the sheriff's office is keeping people away from the area to air on the side of caution as the antennae may have been compromised due to the guide wire.

The APSO wants to emphasize that no one is in danger as of this moment.
