Funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at 10 a.m. at First Baptist Church for Herbert Arthur “Herb” Lengefeld, Sr., 94, who died Monday, August 30, 2010 at 10:48 a.m. at American Legion Hospital in Crowley.

Rev. Roger Tarver will officiate for the services. The family requested visiting hours Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the funeral home and Wednesday from 8:30 a.m. to service time at First Baptist Church. Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010 at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery in Hillsboro, Ohio following services at Turner and Son Funeral Home.

He was born in Kyle, Texas on March 22, 1916. He farmed in Texas before joining the Air Force during World War II where he primarily worked on B-25 aircrafts. After discharge from the Air Force, he settled in Ohio where he farmed and worked for John Deere Tractor Supply. In 1973, he moved to Louisiana where he farmed with his brother, Norman, until he retired in 1994. He has resided in Crowley since 1976 and was an active member of First Baptist Church where he served as deacon and adult Sunday school director for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara B. Lengefeld of Crowley; two daughters, Patricia L. Titcombe and Constance L. Staub both of Dayton, Ohio; three sons, Herbert Lengefeld, Jr. of West Carrollton, Ohio, Michael Lengefeld and Donald Lengefeld both of Hillsboro, Ohio; three step-daughters, Donna Ancelet of Crowley, Janet Ireland of Ulverston, England, and Joyce Woodard of Alabaster, Ala.; one step-son, Steven Lengefeld of Monroe; one sister, Margaret Wedel of York, Penn.; eight grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.

Mr. Lengefeld was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Barr Lengefeld; his parents, Arthur and Martha Lengefeld; four brothers, George, Norman, John, and Fred Lengefeld; and two sisters, Emma and Gertrude Lengefeld.

Pallbearers will be Chad Lemaire, Mike Bergeron, Robert Clayton, Christian Doughty, Jimmy Meche and Kurt Buescher. Honorary pallbearers will be Albert Pruitt, Natho Booth and Herbert Foreman.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church Brotherhood Harvest Fest Fund, 228 East 4th Street, Crowley, 70526.
