The Rayne High Wolves Baseball Team fell hard to Kaplan Tuesday afternoon, 13-2, during a non-district contest. The Pirates put on an 8-run first inning, keeping the Wolves at a far distance all game long.

Dakota Broussard was tagged with the loss on the mound for the Wolves giving up seven hits on six errors by the defense, along with two base on balls.

Offensively for the Wolves was Eric Miller 1-2 with a triple and a run.

Rayne High will now take part in the Crowley Tournament this week, their first game slated today (Thursday) against Iota, followed by Welsh and Simpson on Saturday at Miller Stadium in Crowley.

During a recent softball action, the Lady Wolves claimed a 5-1 win over North Vermilion.

Taking the win on the mound for Rayne High was Mariel Meche, who allowed three hits and collected nine strikeouts on the day.

Collecting at the plate offensively for the Lady Wolves were Kelsey Hollier 2-3, 2 runs; Tori Mott 1-3, 1 run; Kaitlin Thibodeaux 2-3, 1 run; Julie Boutin 1-3; Brittany Thibodeaux 1-3; and Meche 2-3 with a run.

The Lady Wolves will host Vermilion Catholic today (Thursday) at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne, followed by their opening district matchup Tuesday, March 10, when they host Crowley High.
