A Plaisance man whose ride was shot out from under him faces charges in Eunice after being captured here fleeing from Mamou police.

The sequence of events began about 10 p.m. Friday when the Mamou department advised that George Stepney, 44, was being pursued by officers in a high-speed chase on La. 13 headed toward Eunice.

Within five minutes, Eunice officer Derrick Allison sighted Stepney, who refused to stop his vehicle for Allison, sped past him and turned east on Laurel at the C.C. Duson intersection.

Allison advised the communication officer at that point that Stepney tires would be flat soon.

About 10:15 Allison, according to records, reported that Stepney almost hit his patrol car head on.

At that point, Allison also advised he had shot a driver’s side tire of Stepney’s vehicle three times, flattening it.

Four minutes later, State Police apprehended Stepney near La. 103 east of the city.

According to records, Stepney fleeing remaining after being forbidden, disturbing the peace and fleeing the scene charges in Mamou.

Records also indicate Stepney was arrested in Mamou on March 1 of 2010 and charged with remaining after forbidden, resisting arrest, misrepresentation during booking and disturbing the peace in a violent manner.

Allison was placed on administrative leave pending investigation into his discharge of his sidearm. That is departmental policy, Chief Ronald Dies said, adding there is no indication that Allison did anything outside proper procedure.
