Hughes plans $70 million redevelopment of Riverwalk Markeplace

NEW ORLEANS – The Howard Hughes Corp. announced today it is spending $70 million to redevelop the Riverwalk Marketplace in downtown New Orleans as an upscale outlet center. The new venture will be called The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk.

The facility will be expanded from its current 200,000 square feet to 250,000 and will feature outlet stores as well as local retail, dining and entertainment establishments.

The company which bought the property in 2011. The mall’s grand opening was in 1986.

Construction is expected to begin later this year on the redevelopment with a projected reopening in late 2013.
