Police have questioned the husband-father as the investigation continues.
Jacqueilne NIeves, 29, and her daughters Gabriel, 6, and Isabella, 1, were found by fire investigators in the burned-out apartment in which they lived. Each had been stabbed.
Police said the fire was intended to cover up the stabbings.
Carlos Nieves, Jr., 32, has been detained and questioned.
