Leonards struck out the side in the first three innings and limited Doyle to just one hit, a seventh inning single, on the day. The sophomore hurler struck out 15 of the 23 batters she faced.
The Lady Dogs struggled at the plate early on as well, logging just three hits in the first four innings.
But the hosts finally broke through in the fifth inning when April Sensat walked and scored on a triple by Gabbi Heinen.
The Lady Dogs then added six runs in the next inning on six hits, including a triple from McKenzie Armand and RBI singles from Janet Kebodeaux and Courtney Duncan.
Leonards, Duncan and Rae-Leigh Johnson each had two hits for the Lady Dogs while Heinen, Caroline Hebert, Armand and Kebodeaux each had one.
Iota will travel to Mamou to take on the Lady Demons today at 4:30 p.m. in a regional contest.
The winner of that game will advance to next week’s Fast Pitch 56 State Tournament at Frasch Park in Sulphur .
