Iota’s Lady Bulldogs, the No. 15 seed in Division IV, fell in three sets to No. 2 McGehee (25-4, 25-4, 25-14) while Northside, the No. 13 seed in Division V, was eliminated by Ascension Catholic (25-13, 25-5, 25-9).
In New Orleans, McGehee, the 2009 state runnersup and 2008 state champions, dominated the Lady Dogs in the first two games, limiting them to a combined eight points before taking the third and final game, 25-14.
Iota was paced in the loss by Madison Meche with five kills, 24 digs and two blocks while Laura Cart had one kill and 28 digs. Kaylee Richard, Gabbie Heinen and Kelsey Douget each had one kill while Melinda Russell finished with 25 digs.
In Baton Rouge, Northside struggled to contend with Ascension Catholic’s Alena Poirrier and Chelsea Roudez. Poirrier dominated the match with 42 assists while Roudez contributed 18 kills to help the Lady Bulldogs advance to the quarterfinals.
Northside was led by Tori Clement with six kills and 24 digs and Mia Mier with four kills, eight digs and three blocks.
Also contributing were Courtney Romero (1 kill, 10 digs, 2 assists), Natalie Hayes (26 digs, 1 ace), Desi Dietz (14 digs, 1 block) and Maddison Conrad (5 digs, 6 assists).
