Louisiana State University Eunice will make the mid-year budget cut ordered by the Jindal administration by not filling two vacant positions and taking other steps to trim $306,555.

This round of mid-year cuts extends a consecutive year streak that began in 2008.

To this point, Louisiana higher education has sliced about $360 million in spending at the same time the state aspires to build future economic growth on an expanding and more-educated worker base.

LSU Eunice has a General Fund budget of $6 million this fiscal year. The funding cut is 5.1 percent, as it is for the entire LSU System.

The cut from its budget is part of $21.2 million that is being taken from the LSU System budget as dictated by the administration in mid-December.

The LSU Eunice Information Office said the salary and benefits of two vacant positions will not be filled, faculty and staff travel and supplies expenses will be reduced and there will be some reduction in the maintenance and repairs budget.

LSU Eunice’s General Fund contribution from the state is now about the same as it was nine years ago.
