BATON ROUGE – Louisiana taxpayers will receive faster refunds if they file their state income taxes electronically, the Louisiana Department of Revenue announced Monday. They will receive their refunds much more slowly if they file paper returns.

“Taxpayers due refunds will see much faster results if they use electronic filing options such as Louisiana File Online, the state’s free web-based filing application,” Secretary of Revenue Cynthia Bridges said. “With Louisiana File Online, the average turnaround time for refunds is about ten days.”

By contrast, taxpayers filing paper returns should expect to wait at least three months for their refunds.

Louisiana File Online is a fast, convenient, free web application from the Department of Revenue. There are no fees associated with its use.

With Louisiana File Online, taxpayers can manage most aspects of their individual state income tax accounts, including:

· Filing a return

· Making a payment

· Amending prior-year returns

· Checking on the status of a refund

Individuals and businesses can manage their accounts through the Louisiana File Online web portal.
