Lady Wolves Headed Into Regional Round

The #18-ranked Rayne High Lady Wolves advanced to the regional round of the 2012 Softball 3-A State Playoffs with a dominating 16-5 bi-district win at #15 Vidalia Saturday afternoon.

With the win, Rayne High advances to the regional round of action and draws a home contest against #2-ranked Brusly. The game is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, April 19, at Gossen Memorial Park in Rayne.

In Saturday’s bi-district game at Vidalia, Haley Habetz scored the win on the mound for the Lady Wolves. Habetz also scored four runs and 2 RBI’s on two hits and a double.

Cecily Schexnyder banged out four hits with a triple and RBI.

Amanda Bourque was also productive at the plate with three hits, a double, 2 RBI’s and two runs scored.

Adding to the barage of Rayne High hits was Alex Peltier (3 hits, run, 2 RBI, double), Katelyn LeDoux (3 hits, 2 runs, bunt, RBI) and Whitney Fontenot (3 hits, 2 runs, double).

Taking one for the team was Sidney Fontenot who collected a hit-by-pitch while turning in 3 hits, 2 runs, double, RBI and bunt.

Kristin Gaspard also donated three hits while scoring 2 runs on a double and 2 RBI’s.

Reaching base on three walks was Mollie Simon.

The Lady Wolves scored the majority of their runs in the second inning when eight runners crossed the plate. The fifth inning capped the win with four additional runs, while the final inning saw another four runners tag home for the final 16-5 Rayne High win.

With a win today, the Lady Wolves will meet the winner of the St. Charles-E.D. White contest.
