Lady Wolves come up short in tournament play

Despite a good start to the 2012 volleyball season, the Rayne High Lady Wolves have had their ups and downs during recent action.

“The girls are playing hard,” stated Rayne High coach Stephanie Garrett. “However, we have mental let downs at crucial points during matches, some you just can’t rebound from.”

The Lady Wolves participated in the Crowley High Tournament over the weekend.

In their first round on Thursday, they claimed a 25-14, 25-7 win over Church Point.

Church Point match leaders were: Amanda Bourque 1 kill; Erin LeBlanc 1 kill, 3 aces; Madeline Savoy 1 kill, 5 assists, 2 aces; Mia Guidry 1 assist, 1 ace; Niesha Domingue 1 kill, 1 block, 2 aces; Sidney Fontenot 1 kill; Taylor Arceneaux 2 kills, 1 block, 2 aces; Katie Benoit 1 kill, 2 aces; Layni Boudreaux 3 kills, 1 assist, 3 aces; Tristan Mouton 2 aces.

During Friday tournament action, the Lady Wolves defeated Hamilton Christian 25-13, 25-8.

Rayne High leaders in the Hamilton Christian win were: Amanda Bourque 3 kills; Erin LeBlanc 4 assists, 2 aces; Katelyn LeDoux 3 kills; Madeline Savoy 4 assists, 1 ace; Mia Guidry 2 kills, 2 assists, 5 aces; Niesha Domingue 3 kills, 1 ace; Katie Benoit 5 aces; Laynie Boudreaux 1 kill, 1 assist; Tristan Mouton 5 aces.

During their first game on Saturday, the Lady Wolves defeated LaGrange, 25-11, 25-17, placing them in the semi-finals.

Stat leaders in the LaGrange win were: Amanda Bourque 4 kills, 3 aces; Erin LeBlanc 1 ace; Katie Benoit 2 kills, 5 aces; Madeline Savoy 2 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces; Layni Boudreaux 1 kill, 5 assists; Mia Guidry 1 kill, 5 assists; Sidney Fontenot 1 kill, 1 ace; Taylor Arceneaux 1 kill.

In the semi-finals, the Lady Wolves fell to the eventual tournament champions, Iota High, 20-25, 20-25. Game stats for Rayne include: Emily Kibodeaux 2 digs; Madeline Savoy 1 kill, 13 assists, 1 ace; Niesha Domingue 1 kill; Sidney Fontenot 2 kills, 1 ace; Taylor Arceneaux 5 kills, 3 block; Katie Benoit 6 kills, 1 ace; Layni Boudreaux 2 kills, 4 aces 3 digs.

During regular game action Monday afternoon, the Lady Wolves traveled to Sam Houston where they dropped a close five-set match, 25-20, 22-25, 22-25, 28-26, 13-15.

Game leaders were: Amanda Bourque 6 kills, 1 ace, 2 digs; Madeline Savoy 5 kills, 8 assists, 2 aces; Niesha Domingue 2 kills; Taylor Arceneaux 3 kills, 4 blocks, 1 dig; Katie Benoit 1 kill, 2 aces, 1 dig; Layni Boudreaux 4 kills, 7 assists, 3 aces, 1 dig.

Rayne High’s record is now 8-4 prior to their scheduled match Wednesday as they were slated to host Breaux Bridge.

The Lady Wolves will host Carencro High today (Thursday). Freshman action begins at 4 p.m., followed by junior varsity and varsity matchups.

They will then participate in the one-day Jennings High Tournament on Saturday.
