Lady Wolves stay strong with volleyball wins

LAFAYETTE - Rayne High’s Lady Wolves improved their season tally to 5-2 Tuesday with a win over Northside in the early stage of the 2012 volleyball season.

With a slow start and 22-25 and 21-25 losses in the first two sets, they pulled off a come from behind win at 25-16, 26-24, 15-9 for the final three sets of the match.

Donating towards the cause were:

Amanda Bourque - 8 kills, 1 block, 1 assists, 2 digs; Katie Benoit - 3 kills, 3 aces, 7 digs; Layni Boudreaux - 4 kills, 10 assists, 2 digs; Katelyn LeDoux - 1 kill, 5 aces, 10 digs; Madeline Savoy - 4 kills, 15 assists, 5 aces, 2 digs; Niesha Domingue - 7 kills, 2 blocks, 2 digs; Sidney Fontenot - 1 block, 4 aces, 4 digs; and Taylor Arceneaux - 10 kills, 3 blocks, 2 aces, 1 dig.

During Monday afternoon action at Iota High, the Lady Wolves were handed their first loss during a four-set match.

Taylor Arceneaux led in the kill column with 8 kills, 3 blocks, 1 ace.

Niesha Domingue followed closely with 7 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs, while Amanda Bourque donated 5 kills, 1 block, 2 aces.

Setter Madeline Savoy ran the offense with 14 assists, along with 1 ace and 3 kills.

During last weekend’s Carencro Tournament, the Lady Wolves were 2-1 overall. They began with a loss against Acadiana, but answered with wins over Northside and Westgate.

In earlier volleyball action on Wednesday, Sept. 5, the Lady Wolves needed five sets, but claimed a win over Acadiana High.

Leading kills for Rayne was Amanda Bourque with nine kills, along with a block, ace and three digs on defense.

Setter Madeline Savoy had 15 assists, but also turned in three digs, two kills, ace and block.

Taylor Arceneaux was tough at the net with five blocks while recording five kills and two aces.

Also helping with the win were: Erin LeBlanc (4 assists, 3 kills, 2 digs), Niesha Domingue (5 blocks, 1 ace), Katelyn LeDoux (4 digs, 1 kill, 1 ace) and Jannah Veazey (9 digs).

The Lady Wolves traveled to Jennings on Thursday, Sept. 6, for a makeup game from Hurricane Isaac.

Rayne recorded a straight three-set win over the Lady Bulldogs.

Taylor Arceneaux led in the kills column with eight, along with two assists, three aces and two digs.

Amanda Bourque turned in four kills and three aces on the day.

Leading with 13 assists was setter Madeline Savoy, who also had a kill, eight aces at the serving line and a dig on defense.

At the net, Niesha Domingue recorded two blocks and a kill, while Sidney Fontenot had four aces, a kill and assist.

The Lady Wolves were slated to participate in the Crowley High Tournament this weekend, while the freshmen will travel to Acadiana High for a freshman contest.

Volleyball action next week will include a road trip to Sam Houston on Monday, followed by home contests Wednesday and Thursday when they will host Breaux Bridge and Carencro.
