LAFAYETTE – Notre Dame couldn't piece together a run and the Lady Pios were swept at Lafayette High Thursday, 25-18, 25-21, 26-24

The Lady Pios trailed most all of the first two games, rallying several times, but never quite able to get over the hump to lead.

Lafayette led by as much as 10 points in the opening game. Three kills and a service ace by Allison Leonards got ND within 23-18, but the Lions closed out the game on two kills.

The Pios trailed 16-10 in the second when Alaina Savoy took control of the middle net. Savoy banged down a quick hit kill and followed with a service ace to spark a 10-4 run that tied the game at 20. Crucial hitting errors gave Lafayette the lead and the Lions scored the final three points of the game.

Notre Dame led 6-5 in the third game as the teams traded points to a 18-18 tie. Marie Ledet served an ace and Lindsey Meyers blocked down a kill for a 21-18 lead. The teams were tied at 24 when a Pios net violation and a misshit on serve return ended the match.

Savoy led the Pios with eight kills. Leonards knocked down six kills and Megan Malmay adding four winners.

The Lady Pios begin District play Tuesday when they face the defending Division II state champs, Catholic High of New Iberia.
