The bride is the daughter of Darrell and Lisa Soileaux of Rayne. Her grandparents are Lorraine and Robert Myers of Crowley, Jimmy and Peggy Smith of Rayne, Marilynn Soileaux of Rayne and the late Elton Soileaux. She is a 2004 graduate of The Academy of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau following elementary studies at Rayne Catholic Elementary, and a 2010 graduate of Aquinas College in Nashville, Tenn. with a B.A. degree majoring in theology and minoring in philosophy. She will be employed in the fall by the Archdiocese of New Orleans as a special education teacher at St. Michael Special School in New Orleans.
The groom is the son of Commander and Mrs. Paul (Linda) Gagliano of Peachtree City, GA. His grandparents are Major and Anne Thompson of Georgia and Carl and Virginia Gagliano of Alabama. He is a 2003 graduate of Oak Mountain High School in Birmingham, Ala., and then attained an A.S. of general studies from Georgia Military College in Milledgeville, GA; after which, he served in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Once he returned, he attended Auburn University in Auburn, Ala. where he received a bachelor of arts degree in public administration in 2010 as a third generation student at Auburn. A member of the Georgia Army National Guard, he also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve. He will begin studies at Loyola University Law School in New Orleans this fall.
Against a traditional musical backdrop provided by Shelby Runyan, Alex Hollerman, Melissa LaCour and Andrew Poille, guests were ushered to their seats by Henry Soileaux, the bride’s godfather, and Larry Smith, the bride’s great-uncle.
Programs were distributed by Hayley Young of Rayne and Robert Simon of Church Point, cousins of the bride, and Mary Catherine and Claire Gagliano of Georgia, sisters of the groom. House party members were Josie Henry of Rayne, Janice Stutes of Crowley and Glenda Young of Rayne.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore an elegant creation of timeless fashion by Oleg Cassini assembled of ivory satin featuring a traditional portrait neckline. A slight ruched bodice was gathered to the side with a pearl and crystal broach at the natural waist, from which fell a full, A-lined skirt finished with an extended cathedral-length train. The bride's classic hairstyle was held in place by a hair comb of fresh water pearls, crystals and pave leaves, which also held blusher and cathedral-length veils, each edged with a pearl and crystal hemline. She carried a large gathered bouquet in soft hues of ivory and green, enhanced with blue, white and green hydrangeas, and finished with large and miniature cymbedium orchids.
Traditional items selected by the bride for her wedding day included a few heartfelt mementos. Something old was her great-great-grandmother’s embroidered handkerchief carried by her mother during her wedding. Something new was her wedding dress, along with vintage-look pearl jewelry, a special gift from her father for her wedding day. A religious medal from her paternal grandmother was something borrowed, and something blue was her maternal grandmother’s sapphire rosary presented by her own grandmother as a child.
Attending the bride as maid of honor was a close friend, Brittney Merrion of Nashville. Bridesmaids included Natalie Young of Rayne, Aimee Soileaux of Monroe and Lindsey Soileaux of Lafayette, cousins of the bride; Maria and Elizabeth Gagliano of Nashville, sisters of the groom; Niki Arinze, Christine Simpson, Julie Reavie and Susan Ecklin, friends of the bride who reside in Nashville.
Each bridal attendant wore a formal dress of black and ivory designed with a round beaded neckline against an ivory, sleeveless bodice. From the natural waist flowed an attached A-lined black skirt to the knee. Each wore pearl jewelry, a gift from the bride for the wedding, and carried a clutch bouquet of hydrangeas in summer bloom accented with orchids and ivory sweetheart roses.
Serving as flower girl was the groom’s sister, Rose Gagliano. She wore a short-sleeve, floor-length dress of ivory satin featuring a unique weave-style bodice and matching hemline accented with seeded pearls. She carried a pomander of light blue hydrangeas and ivory sweetheart roses, keeping with the theme of the wedding decor.
Attending his brother as best man was Joseph Gagliano of Georgia. Groomsmen were Jamal Robinson of California, Alex Gann of Georgia, Nick Kolar of Alabama, Charles Wilson of Connecticut, Curtis Devoe of Georgia, Will Tarte of South Carolina, Crawford Robertson of Georgia and Paul Kozel of Texas, friends of the groom. Ring bearer was the groom’s brother, Michael Gagliano of Georgia.
Male attendants wore a military formal uniform of their appropriate branch of service or a longer than three-quarter length, single button, center vented charcoal gray tuxedo from Joseph and Feiss featuring a cut-away jacket. The traditional ensemble also included hickory stripe pleated pants which coordinated with a striped ascot and solid light gray vest. On the peak lapel was an orchid boutonniere accented with ivory sweetheart roses and greenery.
For her daughter’s wedding, the mother of the bride wore a floor-length black dress topped with a formal, burgundy jacket designed with a diamond-pattern and crystal accents. The three-quarter length, sheer sleeves was hemmed with a full cuff and stand-up collar. She was presented a pearl wristlet comprised of orchids and ivory sweetheart roses.
The groom’s mother selected a teal, floor-length gown accentuated with a unique wrap-through bodice forming capped sleeves, from which flowed a double-layered skirt featuring a sweep design. She was also presented a pearl wristlet of orchids and ivory sweetheart roses.
Immediately following the wedding ceremony, the couple was honored during a reception held at The Crossing at Mervine Kahn in Rayne. The traditional setting was adorned with formal black and white linens accented with numerous arrangements of light blue hydrangeas, ivory roses and wisteria illuminated with a back light of candelabras and candles.
In addition to hors d’ ourves and a sit-down meal enjoyed by guests was the bride’s cake, a four-tier, white-on-white confection detailed with intricate designs and fresh flowers similar to the bride’s bouquet. The cake sat atop an antique silver pedestal and was flanked at either side with crystal candelabras. The cake was served by the bride’s godmother, Janice S. Stutes.
The groom’s cake was a traditional, double-layered chocolate confection drizzled with dark chocolate and designed with chocolate-covered strawberries. The cake, flanked on each side with silver candelabras accented with light blue hydrangeas and ivory roses, was served by the groom’s paternal grandmother, Virginia Gagliano.
Family members and guests attended the wedding from numerous points of Louisiana, along with cities of Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Tennessee, Florida, Maryland, Connecticut, South Carolina and California.
Following a week-long Caribbean honeymoon cruise, the newlyweds will reside in New Orleans.
Prior to the wedding, the groom’s parents welcomed guests to a rehearsal dinner held Friday, July 30, at Chef Roy’s Frog City Café in Rayne. Guests were treated to a selection of entrees and beverages, with the evening ending with a special treat of Cajun dancing.
