Among the speakers in attendance were Governor Bobby Jindal, Lt. Gov. Scott Angelle, Plaquemines Parish President Billy Nungesser, Dave Welch, CEO of Stone Energy, Lafourche Parish President Charlotte Randolph, citizen activist Cherri Foytin, John Hoffmeister, CEO of Citizens for Affordable Energy, C.J McDonald of McDonald Consulting, Ewell Smith, executive director of the Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board, Jim Funk, Louisiana Restaurant Association and Don Briggs.
All of the speakers had a central theme: President Obama needs to lift the moratorium on offshore drilling and allow our people to go back to work.
Governor Bobby Jindal called on Washington D.C. to allow our people to go back to work and that “All the moratorium does is send more American dollars overseas to buy oil.”
The rally was attended by approximately 12, 000 citizens, with another 3,000 viewing via the internet. Lt. Gov. Angelle was the emcee and, according to Emmons, did a great job of firing up the crowd with quotes like, “Enough is enough and it’s time for President Obama to quit punishing innocent Americans to achieve a political objective” and “America’s not ready to get its fuel from the birds and the bees and the flowers and the trees.”
Layfayette City-Parish President Joey Durel provided a succinct expression of wisdom, “Over reaction of politicians is the most dangerous threat to the Louisiana economy.”
