LAKE CHARLES – Last Saturday senior Kendra Wells and junior Ashlyn Baggett were presented a commemorative basketball signifying their 1,000th career point scored. Both players reached the milestone in the Dec. 16 home game against LSU.

"What an accomplishment! It would be awesome to have one of our girls reach that milestone but two on the same night is amazing! I am so proud of what both Kitty (Kendra Wells) and Ashlyn have done and are continuing to do for this program. We are all very proud of them both," said head coach Brooks Donald Williams.

Wells and Baggett were the 13th and 14th players to score 1,000 career points and are the first two to reach 1,000 points in the same year at McNeese. Since then, Baggett has moved up to seventh on the all-time career scoring leaders while Wells moved has moved up to no. 11.

While Baggett became the career three-point leader at Stephen F. Austin on Feb. 4, Wells is also inching closer to 1,000 career rebounds. The only other McNeese player to reach the 1,000 career rebound mark is Hall of Famer Pat “Shoney” Jean. Jean is also the only player to score 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in her career.

McNeesee could possibly have a third player score her 1,000th career point this season in junior Caitlyn Baggett. Entering this weeks games at UTSA and Northwestern State, Baggett has 961 career points.

"To add a third player to the 1,000 point club and Kitty possibly reaching 1,000 rebounds this season would be just incredible. Three players on one team to accomplish such a huge honor is outstanding! It just shows how far this program has come and how much we have grown," said Williams.
