Midland sweeps Grand Lake

MIDLAND – The Midland Rebels and Lady Rebels each picked up key district victories over Grand Lake Tuesday evening.

The Lady Rebels started the night in dramatic fashion, picking up a 65-61 overtime victory over the visiting Lady Hornets.

Hannah Fremaux drained a 3-pointer in the extra period and the Lady Rebels hit five free throws to seal the victory.

Katie Primeaux led a quartet of Lady Rebels in double figures on the night with 17 points. She was followed by Haley Guidry and Katie Woods with 14 and 13 points, respectively. Fremaux scored 10; Morgan Clement added eight and Melody Hebert scored three.

The Rebels completed the sweep with a 55-41 victory.

Allen Fontenot paced Midland with 16 points while Andrew Hains and Chase Vincent each scored nine. Alan Vondenstein followed with eight points and Jake Gautreaux scored five. Michael Primeaux and Darren Arceneaux each added three points and Timmie Geerts scored two.

The Crowley Ladies and Gents were also winners.

The Ladies improved to 3-1 in District 4-AAA play with a 45-16 victory over Eunice’s Lady Bobcats and the Gents improved to 2-0 in league play with a 56-46 victory over the Bobcats.

The Ladies were led by Mercedes Rogers and Tiara Dugar with nine points each. Isis Broussard and Kara Wilridge each had six.

Jerrell Andrus led the Gents with 15 points while Davante Bourque and Damon Malbrough followed with nine and eight points, respectively.

Over in Mamou, the Iota Lady Bulldogs remained undefeated in District 5-AA play following a 75-42 thrashing of the homestanding Lady Green Demons.

Allison Baggett connected on six of the Lady Dogs’ 11 3-pointers and poured in a game-high 30 points. Anna Leger knocked down three long balls and finished the night with 12 points. Madison Meche pitched in 10 points; Adalie Wriborg scored nine; Candace Sensat had eight and Caroline Hebert scored six.

Iota dropped a 74-51 decision in the boy’s game.

Jimmie Hillman led the Dogs with 19 points and Colby Istre had 13.
