Millers set for American Legion State tournament

CROWLEY – The Crowley Millers will begin play in the 2012 American Legion State Tournament on Saturday at 9 a.m. when they take on Hahnville-based Otto Candies at UL-Lafayette’s Tigue Moore Field.

The Millers earned a berth in the state tournament by taking runnerup honors at the regional tournament last week.

The Otto Candies were the third-place team out of the New Orleans-Baton Rouge regional.

The second game of the day will pit Valero (Destrehan) against Minden at noon to round out the first session.

The afternoon session kicks off with Retif Oil (Jesuit) taking on Abbeville at 4 p.m. The Heymann Chiefs (Comeaux) will close out the first day of action when they take on Peake BMW (Brother Martin) in the nightcap at 7 o’clock.

There are also four games slated for Sunday with the two loser’s bracket games being played at 9 a.m. and noon. The winner’s bracket games will be played in the afternoon at 4 and 7 p.m.

The championship game is slated for Tuesday at 7 p.m. with the If Necessary game to be played at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

The winner of the tournament will advance to the Mid-States Regional which will be played at Kirsch-Rooney Field in New Orleans beginning on Aug. 9.
