CROWLEY – Each year KLFY looks to give top high school students in Acadiana to become “Teen Reporters.”

The new crop of Dr. Pepper Teen Reporter for 2011-12 will begin their work soon and Crowley resident Ben Stringfellow among them.

Stringfellow is a 16-year-old Notre Dame junior. He is the son Dr. Paul and Kimberly Stringfellow.

Stringfellow and the other area new teen reporters will soon get to work. They will serve as on-air reporters that chronicle school-related news.

Their reports will air on the station’s 10 p.m. broadcast.

The teen reporter program has been in existence since the 1980s.

The program gives teens the opportunity to get their feet wet in the television news business.

Teen reporters must bring news stories about teens to the table. They must set up their own interviews, conduct those interviews and then tell their stories.

As an educational program we walk them through every step of the way. And many of our teen reporters have used their news stories to apply for, and receive, scholarships to prestigious colleges across the country.
