CROWLEY – The Notre Dame Pios and Lady Pios earned a clean sweep of Teurlings Thursday afternoon in their first home tennis match of the season at the Glady Trahan Tennis Centre.
The Pios picked up a trio of victories in both singles and doubles action to defeat the Rebels, 6-3, while the Lady Pios rallied for five doubles victories to win the match, 6-4.
In boys singles action, Notre Dame’s top seed Andrew Kondert made short work of Daniel Roy, 8-1, and No. 2 Jordan Daigle held on for an 8-3 victory over Chris Burnell. Hans Prevost added to the point total with an 8-2 victory over Grant Bernard.
The Pios’ No. 3 seed Zach Trahan put up a fight but was upended by Bao Trahan, 8-5.
In doubles action, Notre Dame’s No. 1 team of Andrew Schumacher and Jordan Daigle had little trouble with Drake Boudreaux and Taylor Ortego; they went on to win 8-2. Kondert and Prevost were 8-2 winners over Zac Ashy and Patrick Roesch and Ben Zaunbrecher and Thomas Hebert gave the Pios their final point with an 8-1 victory over Luke Walker and Landon Maynard.
Connor Benoit and Ben McNeely dropped a 9-7 decision to Ethan Domingue and Patrick Mouton while Bryant Venable and Nathan Hong fell to Kaveneaug Darenberg and Hunter Sonnier, 8-1.
Notre Dame’s Margaret Beslin was the only singles winner on the girls side. She defeated Sarah Thompson, 8-5.
Julia Schmid, Kelsey McDaniel and Holly Amy each fell just short in closely contested matches.
The Lady Pios had much more success in doubles action where they won five of their six matches.
Top seeds Natalee Benson and Laura Schmid cruised to an 8-0 victory over Carmen Calderon and Kelsie Melancon. Cecile Benoit and Gabbie Romero also recorded an 8-0 victory, beating Ginny Saltzman and Haven Gerserlauer.
Lizzie Robichaux and Hunter Guidry added an 8-4 victory in their match as did Madeline Barbin and Abbie Lafosse. Tina Nguyen and Sophia Cramer were 8-6 winners in their match.
Claire Hebert and Madison Petry fell just short as they dropped an 8-6 decision.
