Cleo Songy

deGraauw

February 11, 1920 ~ December 31, 2008

Abbeville—Funeral services will be held Monday, January 5, 2009 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church honoring the life of Cleo Claudia Songy deGraauw, 88, who died Wednesday, December 31, 2008 at her residence.

She will be laid to rest at St. Mary Magdalen Cemetery with Msgr. James Songy officiating the services.

Cleo was born on Evergreen Plantation, in Wallace, Louisiana. She received a masters degree in Library Science from LSU. As a young lady she served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII. Cleo served as Vermilion Parish librarian for many years and then served as librarian at Mount Carmel High School and Vermilion Catholic High School.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Robert deGraauw; two sons, Robert deGraauw, Jr. and wife Gayla of Little Elm, TX and James deGraauw and wife Nancy of Baton Rouge; three daughters, Peggy Ashley and husband David of Abbeville, Anne deGraauw of Abbeville and Susan Baudoin of Crofton, MD; two brothers, Msgr. James Songy of Lockport and Kenneth Songy and wife Iris of St. Rose; two sisters, Enid Nielsen and husband Tommy of Algiers and Elsy Morris of Biloxi, a brother-in-law, Harry Nethery of Algiers; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Songy of Baton Rouge and Carolyn Adams of Alexandria, nine grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Fabiola Songy; three brothers, Claude Songy, Jr., Msgr. Donald Songy and Gerald Songy; two sisters, Lois Landry and Joan “Toni” Nethery; and a great grandchild, Gillian Ashley.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Vincent Funeral Home - Abbeville, 209 S. St. Charles Street, on Sunday, January 4, 2009 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. with a rosary to be prayed at 7:00 p.m. The family will reopen on Monday, January 5, 2009 from 8:00 a.m. until time of the service.

The family ask in lieu of flowers donations be made to Mount Carmel Elementary, Vermilion Catholic High School and St. Mary Magdalen Capital Campaign.

Warren Guidry

(January 15, 1929 - December 15, 2008)



Abbeville – A Mass of Christian Burial for Mr. Warren Guidry, 79, was held on Friday, January 2, 2009 at St. Mary Magdalen Catholic Church with Fr. Greg Chauvin officiating.

Visitation was at at David Funeral Home of Abbeville on Friday, January 2, 2009.

Mr. Guidry, passed away at 6:32PM on Monday, December 15, 2008.

Mr. Guidry who was born in Maurice, in his younger years he lived in Abbeville, and later became a resident of Portland, Oregon. Mr. Guidry served his country in the Navy from 1952 to 1961 during the Korean War. He was a Merchant Marine who was employed by the Army Corp of Engineers, and later became a Junior Engineer doing contractual work after his discharged. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, who enjoyed traveling to different countries and taking pictures of his travels. Mr. Guidry loved working for the United States Navy and doing community services. He will truly be missed.

He is survived by his son Ronnie Guidry of Las Vegas; sisters, Mary Wilturner of Ridge, Maudy Hardy of Houston, Jean Guidry of Abbeville, Annie Seals of Houston, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie Guidry; his mother, Germaine Durard; sisters Mable Mitchell and Julia Guidry; brothers Joseph Guidry, Henry Guidry and Clarence Guidry, Sr.

Serving as pallbearers will be Charles Guidry; Ronnie Guidry; Clarence Guidry, Jr.; Brian Guidry; Jerome “Chris” Guidry; Dwight Seals and Dr. Matthew Guidry.

Honorary pallbearers will be Clarence Guidry; Claude Guidry; Henry Griffin, Jr.; and Crandall Griffin.

Beulah Neveaux Duhon

December 20, 1919 ~ January 2, 2009

Abbeville—Funeral services were held held Saturday, January 3, 2009 at an 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church honoring the life of Beulah Neveaux Duhon, 89, who died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Lafayette General Medical Center.

She was laid to rest at Leroy Cemetery with Fr. Greg Simion officiating the services.

Pallbearers included Trey Frederick, Kevin Racca, Brent Frederick, Nolan Frederick, Jr., Rickey Vidallier, and Ritchie Bertrand.

She is survived by a son, Kenneth Neveaux and wife Sue of Meaux; two step son, Autrey Lee Duhon and wife Brenda Roy of Abbeville and Leroy Duhon of Lafayette; three daughters, Helen Neveaux Racca of Abbeville, Clara Neveaux Hay of Ringgold and Laura Neveaux Frederick of Abbeville; two sisters, Della Simon Racca of Kaplan and Gertie Simon Fabre of Leroy, nine grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Raoul Neveaux; second husband, Aswell Duhon; Grandchild, Carlos Babin and great grandchild, Damon Babin; father, Alcide Simon; mother, Laura Landry Simon, her brothers, Vernice Simon and Joseph Paul Simon; and a step son, John Jeffery Duhon.

Annie Mae Lange Maley

Kaplan—Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Vincent Funeral Home - Kaplan honoring the life of Annie Mae Lange Maley, 88, who died Friday, January 2, 2009 at Kaplan Healthcare Center.

She was laid to rest at Kaplan Cemetery with Reverend David Broussard officiating the services.

She is survived by her son, Jude Thaddeus Hebert of Erath; three daughters, Marie “Dean” and her husband Red Primeaux of Kaplan, Rebecca “Bekki” Trahan of Erath and Lisa Margaret Lange of Kaplan; one sister, Winnie “Jerry” Mouton of Kaplan; 14 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 8 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Maley; her grandson, Jean’ Timothy Hebert; her great grandson Thomas Michael Roy; her parents, Sulie Pierre LeMaire and the former Marie Olympe Desormeaux; three brothers and two sisters.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Alzheimer’s Unit at Kaplan Healthcare Center for their excellent and loving care.

Grand Coteau, LA - Funeral Services were held Saturday, Janurary 3, at l:00 PM at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Grand Coteau for Yola Duhon Lemaire, 83, who died Sunday, December 28 at Opelousas General Hospital.

Interment will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Grand Coteau.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, James Ray Lemaire of Sunset, LA; her four children, Roddy Lemaire and his wife, Bernadette, of Kinder; Artie Lemaire of Lafayette; Yolanne Smith and her husband, Jim, of Grand Coteau and Joe Pat Lemaire and his wife DeeDee, of Lewisburg; her twin brother, Ulysse Duhon and his wife, Clelie, of Springfield, Illinois; her nine grand children and 7 great-grand children; and her two former daughters-in-law, Anna Lemaire of Lafayette and Merle Ann Keen of Austin, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Lemaire was preceded in death by her parents, Artheus and Azianna Trahan Duhon of Kaplan, LA., her sister Gladys D. Guidry of Lafayette. LA.

Mrs. Lemaire was a native of Kaplan and resided Sunset, LA for the past 60 years. She was a former beautician and was also a library assistant at the Opelousas-Eunice Library. She was a loving wife, mother and grand mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
