State Police said the accident happened on La. 1 south of La 120 shortly after 2 p.m.
According to troopers, 24-year-old Deputy Ricky Issac, Jr. of Natchitoches was driving a 2008 Ford Crown Victoria, Natchitoches Parish Sheriff’s unit, south on LA Highway 1.
Under rainy conditions, Deputy Issac was entering a slight left curve when his unit hydroplaned and traveled off the roadway, traveled down an embankment and struck several trees before coming to rest.
He died at an area hospital shortly afterward.
This crash remains under investigation.
