CROWLEY – Monday evening’s Junior American Legion contest at Miller Stadium is one that Crowley Pioneers would surely like to forget.
The Pios were unable to log a single hit off three different Eunice pitchers and struggled to find the strike zone in a 21-0 loss to the Oilers.
The Millers used five pitchers in the first two innings, giving up three runs in the first frame and 12 in the second courtesy of nine hits 10 walks.
The Oilers added six more runs over the final three innings, ending the game in the fifth via the mercy rule.
In all, the Pios sent 10 pitchers to the mound in the game. The combined to give up 21 runs on 16 hits and 13 walks. They also committed six errors that led to four runs.
Eunice’s John Ross Johnson was credited with the victory. He walked one and struck out five in two innings of work.
Hayden Pitre took over for Ross in the third inning and walked two while striking out one before giving way to Terry Alexander in the fifth. Alexander struck out two and walked one.
Johnson also led the Oilers at the plate with a 4-for-4 performance that included a double and a triple. Brett Darbonne followed with two hits, including a triple and five RBI.
The Pios will wrap up their summer slate today when they host to Jennings at 6:30 p.m.
