Jay Barnwell, 31, was accused of several charges when arrested in July 2010 along with Officer Raymond Trahan, Jr. and Donald Johnson.
Trahan resigned from the Eunice Police Department shortly thereafter.
Barnwell pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute Alprazolam, Soma and Hydrocodone.
He was sentenced by Judge Alonzo Harris to three years on each charge, with prison time suspended in favor of active probation. The sentences are concurrent. Barnwell also got seven months in the parish jail, which has been served.
There is nothing in the record to indicate whether he is a potential witness in the cases against Trahan and Johnson, neither of which is yet set for trial.
At the time of his arrest, Barnwell was on probation in a previous drug case.
He allegedly told detectives investigating the current case that he would visit at least two different doctors weekly in Texas and have medication prescriptions filled at Texas pharmacies, then bring the pills to Eunice for distribution.
During a search of the trio’s College Road residence in July, officers said they found a number of medications from numerous Texas physicians and also seized several handguns and assorting drug paraphernalia.
