The detail, called "Twenty-Five for Life", is a seat belt detail in which the troopers on shift conduct full zero tolerance seat belt enforcement in the Troop I area for an entire shift. The purpose of the detail is to increase seat belt compliance in the Troop I area and bring it up to the state's seat belt compliance rate. Troopers on shift set out to areas in their respective parishes where the majority of fatal and serious injury crashes take place and conduct enforcement. They focus their efforts on unrestrained individuals, but other violations are handled accordingly. The results of the detail are as follows:
182 seat belt citations issued
9 child restraint citations issued
3 DWI arrests
44 other traffic/administrative citations issued
Troopers remind motorists of the importance of seat belt use, regardless of seating position in the vehicle or age. An unrestrained occupant is a hazard to everyone in the vehicle. It is also important to note that it is the driver’s responsibility to ensure that children are properly restrained at all times in the vehicle.
