Parkview cruises past Church Point

BATON ROUGE - Parkview Baptist exploded for 49 first half points and cruised to 56-16 win over the Church Point Bears Friday evening at the Eagles’ home field.

Fourth-ranked in Class 3-A, Parkview (2-1) produced 452 yards rushing and finished with 500 yards of total offense against the Bears (1-2).

Church Point finished with 162 yards including a 54-yard touchdown run by Von Duplechain and a 61-yard touchdown pass from Ty Leger to Desmond Bellard.

Duplechan, who paced the Bears with eight carries for 64 yards, added a 94-yard kickoff return just before halftime — giving him 197 kickoff return yards on eight returns.

Parkview scored on its first four possessions, unleashed 35 points in the second quarter, including a three-touchdown spree over a 1:20 stretch to put the game away.

Hezekiah Randolph scored on a 76-yard run on the Eagles first play from scrimmage and led all rushers with 129 yards on five attempts.

Randolph also scored on an 11-yard pass from quarterback Jake Clouatre.

Clouatre’s 1-yard sneak in the first quarter made it 14-0 before Laine Miller’s 33-yard field goal provided Church Point with its first points on the first play of the second quarter.

Brandon Johnson carried 11 times for 80 yards and three first-half touchdowns on runs of 31, 11 and nine yards

Garrett Banta added 68 yards on three tries and Brooks Godberry 51 yards and a score.

Duplechan’s 97-yard kickoff return just before halftime closed out the Bears’ 16-point second quarter explosion.

Banta’s 49-yard dash on a lateral from quarterback Brennan Bozeman closed out Parkview’s scoring at the 8:59 mark of the third quarter.

Church Point entertains Rayne (2-1) on Friday.
