According to Councilman Charles Reed, the puppy was killed by one of the banned dogs when it was attacked.
He reminded residents that the town prohibits pit ownership, possession or housing.
Reed said the ordinance was passed several years ago as the problem of pit bull attacks increased.
The ordinance does not specify any other breed of dog, but does state the prohibition applies to pure or mixed-breed pit bull dogs.
Violation of the ordinance can bring a fine of up to $500 and up to 60 days in jail. Violators of the ordinance could also be liable for restitution costs.
