Chief Carroll Stelly announced Friday, Oct. 28, Ali Bonin has been identified as the suspect in question and arrested.
Ali Bonin, a 28 year old Caucasian female from the 400 block of 2nd Street, Rayne, was arrested for Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling that occurred on October 23, 2011.
Judge Jim Cunningham placed a $50,000.00 bond on Bonin for the burglary charge.
In the October 23, case, Bonin approached a homeowner asking to use his telephone and restroom. The homeowner advised Bonin that he was leaving and didn’t have time to assist her.
Upon returning home, the owner observed that his flat screen television, some prescription medication and numerous blank checks had been stolen.
The Rayne Police Department linked Bonin to the burglary through personal property that she left at the crime scene.
Chief Stelly urges the public to contact 911 or the Rayne Police Department (337) 334-4215, should anyone approach them requesting assistance.
Chief Stelly added “this is a common scheme utilized to gain entry into a trusting person’s residence to target prescription drugs in the bathroom or other valuables lying around in plain view.”
Ali Bonin is suspected in other felony thefts and burglaries in the Rayne area and additional charges are expected in the near future.
