Acadia Parish high school football teams are thriving early on in the 2011 prep football season and I don’t expect much to change this week.

Four local teams - Rayne, Church Point, Notre Dame and Crowley - have combined for a record of 9-2 through three weeks of play while Iota is struggling through a rebuilding year and sits at 0-3.

There should be four more wins this week although Church Point and Notre Dame do face stiff challenges on the road.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see how that plays out.

As for last week’s contest, I was shocked to see two contestants miss just two games. Guess I’m going to have start putting Louisiana College back in the mix.

Summar Leleux claimed top honors after hitting the tiebreaker on the nose while Emmett Bobbett earned runnerup honors.

There was a boobie prize winner (at least 10 losses) and that honor goes to Skylar Spell with 12 misses. Mark Broussard followed close behind with 11.

And I thought I had a bad week.

I dropped five games to fall to 40-14 overall.

But enough with the small talk. It’s time for this week’s picks.

Prep Games

Notre Dame over St. Louis – St. Louis gave the Pios a run for their money last season. However, the Saints lost a number of starters from the 2010 squad and the Pios are playing much better than most expected with a young team.

Crowley over Peabody – The Gents proved me wrong last week - and boy did I hear about it. If the same team that beat Washington Marion shows up for the Homecoming game, it won’t even be a contest.

Church Point over Catholic-NI - I went against the Bears last week and I paid for it. So much for my inside scoop. I’m on the fence about this one though. It will be the Bears’ toughest challenge yet.

South Beauregard over Iota – It kills me to pick against the Dogs, but I haven’t been given any reason not to as of yet.

St. Thomas More over Evangel – Everyone knows it’s almost impossible to beat the Cougars in their own house. Well, except Acadiana.

Calvary Baptist over Teurlings – This one will be a long one. Both teams like to air it out. I give the edge to Calvary, which threw for 569 yards last week against Carencro.

Northwest over Oakdale – Another insider tip. Just not the same insider that told me to take Cecilia over Church Point.

Erath over Berwick – Both teams are struggling. I flipped a coin.

Gueydan over South Cameron – Another two teams that are struggling. It’s a toss up.

College Games

LSU over West Virginia – LSU’s defense has impressed me tremendously.

FIU over ULL – Hope I’m wrong on this one, but last I checked, FIU is favored by three scores.

USC over Arizona State – I had high hopes for the Sun Devils this year. A loss to Illinois last week has me thinking differently now.

Florida State over Clemson –I liked what I saw out of the Seminoles last week despite the loss. I’m sticking with them.

Michigan over San Diego State – Did you think I would go any other way?

Notre Dame over Pitt – Irish finally got back on track.

Oklahoma State over Texas A&M - State has a lot of weapons. These guys might give the Sooners a run in December.

SMU over Memphis – Memphis is just bad.

Duke over Tulane – Dukies riding high after big win over Boston College last week.
