Of the 20 games on the Crowley Post-Signal Football Contest, it is safe to assume that there will be some easy games to pick and some not so easy games.

Last week, I thought the mix of high school and college games would present a pretty stiff challenge to all contestants as well as myself.

Boy, was I wrong.

The bulk of the entries ended up with four or more losses, but a select few missed just two or three games. And then there was William Premeaux and Kye Cantey, who were incorrect on just one game and, even more surprisingly, Jeff Bourgeois of Church Point, who a perfect 20-for-20.

Whew!

As for myself, well, I lost three games, dropping my overall record to 85-29.

This week is a new week and new challenges, however.

With that said, here they are:

High School Picks

Notre Dame over Iowa – The Pios got back on track last week with a close 34-30 victory over Jennings. This one won’t be nearly as close.

Crowley over South Beauregard – Iowa couldn’t stop Crowley’s Davante Bourque last week and I don’t see South Beauregard having much of an answer for him either.

Jennings over Westlake – Westlake could make a game of this one on their home turf, but, in the end, I think Jennings’ speed will prevail.

Church Point over Northwest – The Bears are much improved this year and Northwest is, well, Northwest.

Livonia over Eunice – This one could also go down to the wire. Both teams are playing well, but it is hard to overlook the fact that Livonia hung 52 points on Rayne last week. Eunice’s defense is giving up 29 points per game while Livonia s offense is averaging just over 42 points per outing.

Rayne over Port Barre – Port Barre gave Church Point a scare last week which makes this game interesting. But coming off a bad loss to Livonia and playing at home, I have to go with Rayne on this one.

Carencro over Barbe – Barbe did shock Acadiana last week and they do have the Bears at home this week. However, they haven’t encountered a Brent Indest wing-t yet. The Bucs will need the 42 points they hung on the Rams last week and then some to keep up with Carencro.

St. Thomas More over Northside – The Vikings have won four straight, but those victories have been against some subpar teams to say the least. St. Thomas More is far from a subpar team.

Breaux Bridge over Teurlings – Teurlings has been impressive recently, especially last week in a surprisingly close 27-24 loss at St. Thomas More. But they haven’t played a team with a defense quite as good as Breaux Bridge.

Oakdale over Iota – I’ve given the Bulldogs the benefit of the doubt a few times already this year. Just couldn’t do it again.

Parkway over Byrd – Hard to tell with these two teams. Both are undefeated and both have put up big numbers offensively. I’m going with the upset.

Welsh over Lake Arthur – Both teams are having a good season. If you look at like opponents, both teams beat East Beauregard soundly, but Lake Arthur beat Rosepine by one while Welsh blew them out, 43-0. That’s enough for me.

College Picks

Auburn over Florida – The Gators are just down this year. And with a backup QB, no way they beat Auburn .

Clemson over Maryland – Yup, I’m on the Tigers’ bandwagon.

Louisiana College over Howard Payne – LC is still in the Top 25. Howard Payne is not.

LSU over Tennessee – The more I watch LSU, the more impressed I am with the Tigers. Bad clock management won’t hinder this beatdown.

UL-Lafayette over North Texas – I’ve been waiting three weeks for the Cajuns to slip up and they haven’t yet.

Michigan State over Michigan – Yes I did! I am going against my team - and hoping and praying I’m wrong. The Wolverines have been on fire but have had too many mental lapses here and there. If they have a first half like last week, we’ll be sitting at 6-1.

Oklahoma State over Texas – The Longhorns just thought they had a rough one last week with the Sooners. This week they get the best team in the Big 12 and the state of Oklahoma .

Mississippi State over South Carolina – Oddsmakers have the spread at 2 1/2 for South Carolina . I’m going against the grain and taking the home team.
