Yeah, some of you told me the Bama-Michigan game wouldn’t be close.
And you were right.
I guess I was delusional going in. But, hey, you understand where I’m coming from, right Tiger Fan.
My Wolverines were defeated by a more superior team. In fact, Alabama is probably the most superior team in the country. You can argue for the No. 2 and No. 3 (LSU, USC) spots, but there’s no denying No. 1.
But I’m over it.
Now that I got that off my chest, let’s chat a little about the picks.
Ed Dartez, who won the preseason contest to claim a pair of Crowley High Football season tickets a week ago, claimed the top spot in Week 1 by edging out second-place finisher Michael LeJeune on the tiebreaker. Each missed just one game - ironically the same one.
Seven contestants missed two games while I was one of six that missed three.
I was going to give out a “Boobie Prize” this week, but I think I will hold off because I think someone is playing a little prank. At least I hope so because going 4-16 is the worst record I have ever seen in this contest.
But enough of the small talk, it’s time for this week’s picks:
Notre Dame over Breaux Bridge – This is the first big test for the Pios. Breaux Bridge will likely be bigger on the fronts and the Tigers, without a doubt, will be more athletic. Even so, the Pios have had success against them in the past - and will again.
Crowley over Comeaux – Like last year, Comeaux will be the bigger team in this matchup. But with Crowley’s big-play capability, it might be a matter of just keeping up for the Spartans.
Church Point over Kaplan – Yeah, Kaplan put up big offensive numbers last week in a 68-14 victory over Jeanerette. But Church Point isn’t Jeanerette and I would be shocked if they gave up even two touchdowns to the Pirates.
St. Edmund over Iota – The Bulldogs are struggling and as much as I hope to see that turn around, I don’t see them getting that first victory this week.
Rayne over Welsh – Like I said last week, the Wolves are the real deal and their early- season schedule definitely plays in their favor.
Port Barre over Westminster – Port Barre dominated Westminster last year and although both teams will be playing this season with a number of new starters, I don’t see much changing.
Acadiana over Westgate – Acadiana isn’t as polished as they have been in the past, but they are still Acadiana.
Eunice over Jennings – Both teams look evenly matched. This one could come down to the wire.
Beau Chene over Cecilia - Neither team impressed me so far. Cecilia looked down in the jamboree and then got blown out last week by Jennings. Beau Chene, despite getting beat by Church Point, has some play makers. This one could go either way.
Destrehan over St. James – St. James struggled to say the least last year and word is, they aren’t much better this year.
North Vermilion over Ville Platte – I’m putting my stock in the higher classified team here.
LSU over Washington – Washington looked bad in a slim (21-12) victory over San Diego State last week. The Huskies don’t stand a chance, provided LSU actually decides to put away a lesser opponent this week.
ULL over Troy – I know it was only Lamar, but, dang, the Cajuns looked good last week. GEAUX CAJUNS!
Michigan over Air Force – Last week, the Wolverines were out-manned and over-matched by the best team in college football. This week, we start a win streak.
Georgia over Missouri – Welcome to the SEC, Mizzou!
Wisconsin over Oregon State –Can’t see myself picking a Pac-12 team to win on here - other than USC.
Nebraska over UCLA - Reference my Wisconsin - Oregon State pick above.
Oklahoma State over Arizona – I really do like Rich Rod, but, again, refer to my last two picks.
Mississippi State over Auburn – Auburn burned me last week. Oddsmakers have State favored by three.
Florida over Texas A&M – The line on this one favors A&M, but I’m not sold on that. No way the Gators let a SEC newbie come into The Swamp and walk out victorious.
