But for some prognosticators, the picks were fairly easy in the Crowley Post-Signal Football Contest.
Keith Guillotte fared the best, winning the top prize with just two losses.
Joseph Lormand finished second with just three losses while I, like most of the contestants, dropped five games.
Now that everyone is caught up on who won and who didn’t, it’s time to move on to this week’s picks.
High School Picks
Notre Dame over Jennings – The Pios have struggled offensively in the last two weeks and are due for a breakout game.Add in the fact that it is their Homecoming and I think this is the week they turn the corner.
Crowley over Iowa – Iowa looks pretty good on paper at 4-1, but the Yellow Jackets schedule isn’t exactly loaded with talented teams. They have a loss to Bunkie and the Yellow Jackets barely slipped by Port Barre.
Livonia over Rayne – First big test for the Wolves. Both teams have put up some big numbers, but Livonia has more quality wins than Rayne.
Westlake over South Beauregard – I haven’t seen either team play but from looking at boxscores, the Golden Knights are vastly overrated.
Church Point over Port Barre – This is just not the Red Devils’ year.
Higgins over Destrehan – Destrehan star Ricky Jefferson is out after tearing his ACL.
Alexandria over Peabody – Both teams have struggled all season. This one is a tossup.
Iota over Bunkie – Word is Bunkie is small on both sides of the line and has trouble throwing it. This one could go either way but I’m taking the Dogs to pick up that elusive first victory.
Avoyelles over Caldwell – Avoyelles has scored 60 points twice this year and 40 or better in their other three games.
Loreauville over West St. Mary – Expect a lot of points to be scored in this one. West St. Mary will keep it close, but Loreauville will win it with a late score.
College Picks
LSU over Florida – Even with their starting quarterback playing, Florida didn’t stand a chance in Death Valley .
Louisiana College over East Texas Baptist – LC is ranked in the Top 25. Enough for me.
Texas A&M over Texas Tech – Hopefully, the Aggies won’t let another second half lead slip away.
Virginia Tech over Miami – The Canes just don’t have it this year.
Oklahoma over Texas – I find it hard to believe that the oddsmakers only have the Sooners favored by 10. I don’t think this one will be that close.
Nebraska over Ohio State – As a Michigan fan, it brings my heart great joy to see Ohio State with two losses already.
Michigan over Northwestern – Big test for my Wolverines this week. First road game of the season against a very mobile quarterback. But we’ve got this.
Troy over UL-Lafayette – I really hope I’m wrong on this one, but I think the Cajuns luck will run out this week.
Arkansas over Auburn – The Razorbacks have really impressed me this year, even in their loss to Alabama .
Tennessee over Georgia – Could go either way.
