LAKE CHARLES – Midland’s Jake Gautreaux, Alan Vondenstein and Darren Arceneaux combined for 49 points and 12 steals Friday to help lead the Rebels to a 74-35 rout of Grand Lake.

The victory sent the Rebels to 25-7 on the year and 8-1 in District 7-B play heading into Monday’s home league contest against Lacassine.

Gautreaux scored six of his game-high 19 points in the first quarter to help give Midland a 16-8 advantage and the Rebels were off and running.

They then picked up six steals in the second frame and Devin Gautreaux connected on a pair of 3-pointers to help push Midland’s lead to 33-10 at the break.

Vondenstein led the charge in the third quarter with eight points and Arceneaux buried two 3-pointers as the Rebels outscored the Hornets 23-13.

The Rebels closed out the game by outscoring the Hornets 18-12 in the fourth quarter.

Vondenstein followed Gautreaux’s 19-point performance with 16 points while Arceneaux had 14. All three Rebels had four steals on the night.

Devin Gautreaux added 11 points in the victory and Randy Primeaux had six. Traven Guidry, Nick Primeaux, Stephen Primeaux and Dagan Patin each finished the night with two points.

LAKE CHARLES – The Midland Lady Rebels rallied from a four-point fourth quarter deficit and hit four clutch free throws down the stretch to upend Grand Lake Friday.

The Lady Rebels (16-18, 4-5)  took a 21-9 advantage in the first quarter before Grand Lake rallied to cut the lead to 30-27 at the break.

The Lady Hornets cut the lead to 41-40 at the end of the third quarter and took a 45-41 advantage early in the final frame.

But the Lady Rebels went on an 8-0 run to regain the lead and they never relinquished it.

Bethany LeJeune and Kristen Breaux each poured in 16 points to lead the Lady Rebels.

Melody Hebert followed with 13 points, Katie Woods added nine and Nicole Kraut had two.

Westlake 40

WESTLAKE – The Crowley Ladies finished the  2012-13 regular season out on a positive note Friday.

Mercedes Rogers, Tiara Dugar and Myah Rogers combined for 42 points to help lead the Ladies to their seventh district win of the season.

Mercedes scored a game-high 18 points while Dugar and Myah had 14 and 10 points, respectively.

Alanna Plummer scored six points in the victory and Nykelia Winters had two.

The victory came only days after the Ladies received word that they would have to forfeit eight games due to the use of an academically ineligible player.

CHS Gents 50

WESTLAKE –   The Westlake Rams took a slim lead in the third quarter and fended off a late rally to slip past Crowley High Friday in the District 4-3A finale for both teams.

The Gents (14-14, 5-5) trailed 37-33 heading into the fourth quarter but failed to make up any ground in the final frame.

Damon Malbrough led the Gents with 12 points and John Davis had 11. Marcus Williams added 10 points, Danny Malbrough scored seven, Andre Mills had six and Jesse Harmon finished with four.

Ville Platte 70

Iota Lady Dogs 45

  IOTA – Ville Platte jumped out to 19-point lead at the half and outscored Iota 32-26 in the final 16 minute to cruise past the Lady Dogs Friday and finish off a perfect District 5-2A season.

  Iota (13-17, 8-2) nabbed the runnerup spot. Both of the Lady Dogs’ league losses were to Ville Platte.

  Brittany Johnson led Iota scorers with 17 points while Taylor DeVille and Mallory Faul had nine and seven rebounds, respectively. Paige Soirez and Jillian Boone each scored six points.

NCS Warriors 87

Gueydan 52

CROWLEY – The Northside Christian Warriors built a 43-26 halftime lead and never looked back in a dominating non-district victory over Gueydan Friday.

Kade Miller scored nine points in the first quarter and torched the nets for 17 more in the third. He finished the night with a game-high 30 points.

Joseph Trahan also had a big night. The junior forward added 10 points in the first frame and finished with 20. Ty Wilson and Tracy Wilridge also scored in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively.

Trent Martin added six points, Devin Freeland scored four and Nicholas Martin, Cole Henry and Dylan King each finished with two.

Gueydan 37

Lady Warriors 35

CROWLEY – Gueydan’s Honey Bears rallied from a three-point deficit and outscored the Northside Christian Lady Warriors 11-6 in the fourth quarter to slip away with a non-district victory Friday evening.

Madi Clement led the Lady Warriors with 13 points and 11 rebounds while Natalie Hayes had nine points and 15 rebounds.

Madeline Gatte and Cydni Crozier each score six points and Sydni Guidry had one.
