The Hornets had one player who did not meet academic requirements and played in three victories that the team will have to forfeit if the LHSAA does not rule in the school's favor.
Once the school realized the infraction, principal Georgia Ineichen and head coach Bo Barton notified the LHSAA.
As of Tuesday evening, the LHSAA hadn't reached a final decision on what to do about the rule infraction.
Rayville finished the regular season with a record of 5-5 and was the No. 16 seed in the Class AAA playoffs. They were scheduled to host No. 17 Independence Friday with the winner advancing to the second round to face the winner of the Notre Dame-Plaquemine game.
Had the problem been detected earlier, the Hornets could have still made the playoffs even if they were to forfeit three games due to their power rating. However, the playoff brackets cannot be shuffled around once they were released on Sunday.
If the forfeits stand, Independence will receive a first-round bye.
The LHSAA is expected to make its final ruling on the situation sometime today.
