CADE – The rivalry between Midland and Episcopal School of Acadiana has consisted of some very competitive, and, at times,  heated contests over the years.

On Tuesday, the much anticipated matchup was neither.

Midland picked up 22 steals and forced countless turnovers in rolling to a 70-14 victory over the Falcons.

Midland improved to 19-6 overall and 2-0 in District 7-B with the victory. The Falcons fell to 11-13 and 0-3.

ESA took its lone lead (2-0) early in the game before Midland reeled off 11 straight points en route to an 18-4 advantage at the end of the first quarter.

Jake Gautreaux and Devin Gautreaux each pitched in five points in the opening frame.

Things didn’t get any better for the hosts in the second quarter. An 0-for-5 shooting performance from the floor and 12 turnovers by the Falcons enabled the Rebels to extend their cushion to 42-4 at the break.

The Rebels picked up 11 steals in the second half, seven in the fourth quarter with the reserves on the court, and went on to outscore the Falcons 18-10 in the final two frames.

Jake Gautreaux connected on three 3-pointers and led Midland with 19 points. Alan Vondenstein added nine points to go along with three rebounds and seven steals.

Stephen and Randy Primeaux also scored nine points each, Devin Gautreaux added eight and Dagan Patin had six. Darren Arceneaux and Nick Primeaux each scored four points and Taatum Rubin rounded out the Rebels’ offensive attack with two.

The Rebels return to district action tonight when they travel to Hathaway for a 7 p.m. contest.
