CROWLEY - The 101st version of LSU AgCenter Rice Research Station Field Day will begin this morning at 7:30 a.m.

Scientists and rice industry representatives from throughout the nation and world are expected to be in attendance. “The presentations at the field day will cover the entire spectrum of growing a rice crop,” Dr. State Linscombe said. Linscombe, the station’s director also said, “This gives our scientists the opportunity to tell farmers about the research being done at the station, and the latest in recommendations for commercial rice produstion.”

Field tours of the various plots will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the final tour expected at 9:30 a.m.

A program will be held beginning at 10:45 with speakers including Dr. Michael Salassi, economist, who will give a market outlook for the 2010 crop and issues pertaining to the farm bill. Other speakers include Dwight Roberts, Jacie Loewer, Frank Rehermann, Dr Bill Richardson, LSU AgCenter chancellor, Dr. David Boethel, vice-chancellor, and Dr. Paul Coreil, vice-chancellor for extension. The activities will conclude at noon with a barbeque luncheon.
